Array Lighting from Nexxus Selected by Greenlight Initiative

Greenlight Initiative, a New York headquartered LED-lighting sales and solutions provider, announced yesterday that it has completed qualification of the LED-based replacement lamp product line from Array™ Lighting. With testing and evaluation complete, Greenlight and Array have concluded a national and municipal/public works accounts sales agreement for Array's full line including PAR30, PAR16, MR16 and GU10-type LED replacement lamp products.

According to Nick Nicolakis, President and co-founder of Greenlight Initiative, “LED-based replacement lamps are the most visible application area for solid state lighting, and they have also proven to be the most frustrating in which to find a high-quality product line. Some of the most outrageous overstatements in LED lighting can be found in the data sheets of Edison screw-based replacement lamps and MR/GU types of bulbs, which is of huge concern considering replacement lamps represents a large portion of the SSL market right now. After sorting out the blatant violators, a handful of manufacturers products were brought in for photometric and heat-testing, and we are pleased to have found Array's product line meets its claims, and does so with a reliable design approach.”

When compared to compact fluorescent “spiral” bulbs, Array's LED-based lamps provide superior energy efficiency, improved color quality, and vastly improved lamp life of up to 50,000 hours. One key to Array's quality implementation is its Selective Heat Sink™ (SHS) technology, which enables the heat dissipation to occur at the individual LED level, towards the front of the replacement lamp, where there is available airflow. Of the few solid state replacement lamps that do effectively manage the heat, most depend upon an integrated heat sink that makes up the majority of the lamp body. The result is a bulky, relatively heavy bulb with reduced lamp life when mounted in many common fixtures with restrictive airflow.

“Proper thermal management is key to the lifetime and color maintenance of the current generation of solid state lighting technology,” stated Bill Blackley, Vice President of Sales of Nexxus Lighting. “We’ve addressed thermal management in a unique way with our patent pending, Selective Heat Sink Technology which keeps the LED’s operating at an optimal temperature and ensures the listed 50,000 hour lamp life. Given our commitment to industry standards and labeling initiatives, we are pleased that Greenlight Initiative has recognized this advantage, and fully qualified the Array replacement LED lamp line for inclusion in their quality-oriented lineup,” concluded Mr. Blackley.

Many common PAR fixtures are not mechanically adapted to support bulbs that weigh significantly more than the standard incandescent versions, opening up a series of problems that can make a retrofit difficult, if not impossible. Array’s SHS technology eliminates the weight challenge without sacrificing reliability.

Greenlight Initiative has become widely known for its qualitative approach to testing and selection of the solid state lighting solutions it offers to the market. “LED replacement lamps represent the most exciting, but also the most challenging, market opportunities for the solid state lighting industry,” added Mr. Nicolakis. “The acquisition costs for 'screw in' replacements are relatively low, and with the current state-of-the art in LED energy efficiency, they represent a quick payback and return-on-investment, often less than one year in most non-residential applications. If done correctly, replacement lamps represent a way LED lights can quickly gain a lot of traction, and when done incorrectly, they reflect badly on the industry as a whole. Greenlight Initiative, in choosing partners like the Array brand, is committed to doing it correctly.”
